Citizen journalism can be defined as the collection, dissemination, and analysis of news and information by the general public, especially by means of the Internet. In the modern area, many people in our society have a smart phone that records videos and has access to the internet. When something is going down some individuals resort to recording the situation and sharing it on social media. Once the video is on social media, other individuals get involved by commenting their thoughts and reactions. A large issue in today's society is the concept of sharing and receiving fake news, this is propaganda that consists of deliberate disinformation or hoaxes spread via traditional print and broadcast news media or online social media. Its not always difficult to figure out whats true and whats fake news, but the interesting thing is the news and a video on Facebook can show the same information and society might have a hard time figuring out which is true, which is fake, or are they both fake. This leads to a bunch of people in disagreement over certain topics, so while citizen journalism can be positive as an additional source of journalism, it can also be negative by causing misunderstandings through society.
